Most of us can do well until the heat of the day comes and problems in our lives arise and then the stress and anxiety over takes us and leads us back to abusing drugs or an alcohol relapse. But the more faith you have in the Lord and in the power of His might the stronger you will be through the tests and trials that will surely come. And it is not a matter of if they will come, but when, they will come.

As it tells us in the above verses it’s the trials and perceived problems in our lives that give us patience, therefore making us stronger each time if we don’t quit and give up.

The latter verse in James above tells us to ask for wisdom to get through the trials that we face. This is very important because without wisdom we won’t make it through. (Proverbs 23:23) Buy the truth, and sell it not;
also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

I pray for this each day: Pray for God to guide my steps and lead my path and not let me mess things up, and for truth, faith, wisdom, knowledge and understanding and good courage.

Also compromising will get us into trouble, many of us do not want to let go of certain things in our lives that cause problems. We think because we don’t use heroin anymore we can go hangout at the bar and have a few drinks, or sleep around etc… and the list of other addiction and obsessions examples goes on… Anytime we compromise with sin or put ourselves in places we know we should not be it opens the door to Satan and gives him a foothold to lead us into deeper trouble. Old patters as well as people, places and things must all change or it will get you in trouble.

Christian recovery is an ongoing process, once you leave the Christian drug rehab you must stay plugged into a recovery network. We will never reach the point where we are strong enough to start doing things on our own again without the help of other Christian. The Bible clearly states that we need to stay in fellowship with other Christian. Many Christian believers who received treatment for drugs and alcohol and were doing well at one point in time but backslid can almost always trace things back to where the problem began and will usually find they started to isolate themselves more and more not going to Bible study and church or support groups.

Therefore it is important to attend church regularly as well as get involved with Bible studies throughout the week. Also Celebrate Recovery is a Christian support group network which is a Christian based 12 step program that has really good success. Celebrate recovery programs are all over the nation and you can check www.CelebrateRecovery.com to find one in a city near you. Again we cannot emphasize enough the importance of staying in fellowship with other Christians who are on the right path. The enemy will do everything he can to separate you from the pack and once he does that he can start to fill your mind with lies. And we have to remember that people are not perfect and all too often a brother or sister in Christ will become offended by what someone else said or did etc… and will let it harden in their heart and caused them not to return to that Bible study or church group; When in fact it may have been a complete misunderstanding. Misunderstanding or not we’ll never agree on everything so don’t let the small stuff get in the way of your relationship with God and your recovery. Remember that we are to put God first and to forgive our brother if he has offended us. Regardless if it was intentional or unintentional we cannot let this detour us from staying in fellowship with other Christians. Otherwise we will only hurt ourselves in the end.

Whenever we make the decision to turn our lives around and get off of drugs and alcohol the enemy of our souls is going to do anything he can to deceive you and trip you up to lead you back down that destructive path.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:10-13

As with food we are what we eat and it is the same principle with the mental and spiritual things, what we read and watch and what we listen to determines our thinking patterns and our feet follow for better or worst. Therefore we need to be viligent about the things we focus on everyday. For example much of the stuff on TV these days is like junk food for your spirit and will profit you nothing, and will eventually cause discontent in your life to the degree to which you are watching and meditating on the wrong shows. The same goes for music because much of the songs are ungodly and carry a bad message which is contrary to God's word. Guard

Keep your heart with all diligence;
for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23

The Bible tells us what to do here if we want God's peace:
Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.   The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. -Philippians 4:8-9

The Bible tells us what to do here if we want to be prosperous and successful:
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” —Joshua 1:8-9

Philippians 4:6-7  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;  and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
